Thermal Mass Flow Meters: Heating Up

Heat is utilized in a variety of applications that I personally am very fond of. For example, central heating and space heaters are both vital to my survival of winter time, as are heated blankets and stoves. Without a stove to bake, heat up water for hot chocolate and tea and fry up yummy breakfast food like bacon, my life would be much less pleasing. Heat is a luxury that allows us humans to cook, withstand cold weather and do a variety of industrial processes that create products we use every day. Also, heat is used to monitor industrial processes such as the flow of liquids and gases through systems. A thermal mass flow meter is a heat utilizing measurement tool for measuring how fast substances flow through systems, which is very important for the safety of equipment as well as those using it.

Reliable, flexible and made from sturdy materials so that they last a long time, thermal mass flow meters are immersed in liquid or gas flows and heated up with electric current when in use to measure the flow. The liquid or gas passing the thermal flow meter picks up heat molecules from it which are then picked up further down the line by another thermal mass flow meter. The heat readings done on the liquid or gas can give maintenance workers a lot of information about the flow of the substance. These tools can be used in heavy duty industrial settings as well as light duty, ultra high purity applications and hazardous environments. The type of material used to house the thermal flow meter is what changes based on the environment. Gas storage and distribution, water treatment facilities and chemical processing are just a few of the industries that require these flow meters and are thankful for the way heat is able to take measurements.
